JEH Homes is better by design with our exclusive GREENdesign Initiative. This comprehensive program targets the design, construction, operation and maintenance of each home intended to reduce its associated raw materials, energy requirements and environmental impacts. All homes built with the GREENdesign Initiative are more efficient and consume less, which enables JEH homeowners to potentially save hundreds of dollars annually.
The smart features of our GREENdesign Initiative are:
Bigger is not better... it is common for our GREENdesign homes to seem much larger than they actually are. That is because GREENdesign homes are intentionally designed using dimensional planning with open floor plans that utilize space very efficiently by minimizing walls, hallways and common "dead space". Therefore, these homes require much less construction materials to achieve an equally livable home compared to the "Big Box" style homes. There is also less area to heat and cool, plus it enables better air flow circulation which makes the home easier to heat and cool. These strategies reduce the amount of building materials required which saves resources and reduces the homeowner's energy costs.
It is what you don't see that matters the most! That is why the HVAC, floor trusses, roof trusses, stair assemblies, and foundations are fully engineered for quality in every GREENdesign home. This insures the most important components of your home are precisely constructed to exacting standards and inspected by experts. This results in home that is plumb, level, and square. The process is also environmentally responsible because so much less waste is created since the components of each home are precisely planned and manufactured.
Our GREENdesign homes have spray sealant applied to all cracks and gaps around window and door frames, exterior framing, attic stairs, knee walls, and exterior utility penetrations. In addition, mastic and caulk is applied to all HVAC boots. This creates protective thermal barrier against the outside elements.
Our GREENdesign homes are completely covered with House Wrap. This synthetic material acts as a water resistant barrier to help keep your house dry and protects the home against outside air. This reduces the energy costs and saves the homeowner money because homes stay cool in the summer, warm in the winter and dry all year round. Low E Glass Our GREENdesign homes utilize Low E (emissivity) glass in all windows and doors. The glass is coated with a protective glazing that helps reflect heat and may reduce the energy loss by as much as 30%–50%. This protection reduces energy costs by preventing sunlight from heating up your home.

All GREENdesign homes have high R-value Batt Fiberglass wall insulation and Blown Fiberglass ceiling insulation. The insulating factor of any given type of insulation is measured by the R-value; Batt Fiberglass Insulation provides an R-13 rating in exterior walls and blown Fiberglass Insulation provides a R-30 rating inside of the attic. The primary reason for insulation is to help retain cool in the summer and heat in the winter. However, Insulation also helps with soundproofing a home.
A unique feature of our GREENdesign initiative is water conservation. This is achieved by using low-flush 1.28 GPM toilets and low-flow WaterSense fixtures by Delta Faucet®. Delta showerheads that meet WaterSense requirements use between 20 and 40% less water (1.5 or 2.0 GPM) compared to the industry standard (2.5 GPM), while the lavatory faucets that meet WaterSense requirements use 32% less (1.5 gpm versus the standard of 2.2gpm). All perform as well or better than their less efficient counterparts.
Our homes also include Rheem Fury® gas water heaters featuring the Guardian System which are engineered to exceed ANSI standards for flammable vapor ignition resistance. These hot water heaters have a minimum .58 efficiency and provide more hot water at a low operating cost. Overall, these great features reduce the water demand and cost for each home.
Up to half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. That is why every GREENdesign home features high efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system equipped with an easy to set programmable thermostat. Furthering the energy efficiency, the duct seams and connections are sealed with mastic or metal-backed (foil) tape to prevent leaks.
No system is complete until it has passed a thorough Blower Door and Duct Blaster test performed by a certified examiner. This insures your HVAC system is working efficiently. In addition, only high efficiency gas furnaces with a minimum 80% AFUE rating are used in the GREENdesign Initiative. These furnaces provide more heat while using less fossil fuel providing excellent energy cost savings.
