Home Building Process

Congratulations on the purchase of your new home! We understand this is an exciting time that might be filled with many questions. Below is an informative explanation of the entire home building process and features of every JEH Home. We have also provided a photo gallery below to visually explain the processes and components of each home.

Commitment to Quality

At JEH Homes our commitment to the highest quality construction is rivaled only by our commitment to truly happy home owners. We understand that we are not just building another house but your Home.

Home Designs

JEH Homes works with the best residential architects in Atlanta to design creative plans that are as efficient as they are comfortable and beautiful. Each new home design is analyzed by JEH Homes and its Trade Partners for ways to improve the home before it is ever built. All new plans undergo a rigorous 3 step prototype process in which JEH personnel and key Trade Partners walk the home for quality control, livability and overall efficiency.

Trade Partners

JEH Homes utilizes the best suppliers and trade partners for both the labor and materials in every JEH Home. We pride ourselves on building long term, positive relationships with our Trade Partners and working together as a team to offer the highest quality materials and the best installation methods. All of our homes conform to the International Residential Code, Georgia Residential Energy Code, as well as any local government requirements.

Construction Process

The construction process begins by carefully deciding where to place the house on the lot, making sure that appeal and efficiency are our priorities, then we grade the lot to prepare it for the construction process. At this point buyers meet and get to know their builder with a pre-construction meeting. During this meeting, the Builder will discuss house placement, lot grading, water drainage, selected options as well as learn about the construction process and the stages that will follow. As the concrete foundation is completed and framing starts, you will be impressed with the efficiency and quality of construction and materials that are used in the home. Soon, the framework of the home will be standing right before your eyes.

Over the next few weeks the house will get all the plumbing, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and electrical roughs installed followed by local county or city inspections as well as our own internal Quality Control Inspections. The Builder will again meet with the Buyer onsite for a Pre-Drywall Walk to discuss the selected options, construction process to this point and beyond, learn about materials used in the house as well as the final stages the home will undergo before closing. During the last phase your home will get drywall, trim, paint, plumbing, HVAC and electrical finished up, with landscaping and flooring right behind.

For the final Builder meeting, a JEH Sales Representative will set up a Homeowner Orientation. This Orientation will be by far the most informative time spent with the Builder. Each buyer will learn how to care for their new home as well as learn about your industry leading warranty. The Builder will demonstrate things like how to change air filters, shut off exterior hose bibs for winter, how to operate tilt windows, and fireplace operation. Now all that is left is to close and move into your amazing new JEH Home.

Quality

At JEH Homes, we believe in Quality without compromise. Our attention to detail and taking the time and care to do it right is easily recognized. This sets us apart from other builders and makes our homes so livable once you move in and into the future. We truly believe that the little things that make the biggest difference and that is why all JEH Homes include:

  • Decorative trim around mirrors provide a finished edge.
  • Double sinks in the master bathroom.
  • Wireless WiFi in all homes started after August 31, 2012.
  • Granite countertops in the kitchen.
  • Tile back splash in the kitchen.
  • Wood flooring in the kitchen and powder bath.
  • Microwave oven in the kitchen.
  • All bedrooms are braced and wired for future ceiling fans. Each room has a separate switch for the light and for the fan. The advantage is that you can add a fan down the road or at the time of contract with JEH, whichever makes sense for you.
  • Rather than crown or chair rail ending in the middle of a wall, JEH applies decorative blocking to define the transition from one room to the next and the end of the crown or chair rail.
  • Kneewall caps are edged with an Ogee cut.
  • All lineal trim is cut at 45 degree angles for a virtually seamless transition from one piece to the next (versus a straight 90 degree cut which tends to separate more quickly over time requiring more frequent caulking).
  • Windows wrapped with casing, not just sheetrock.
  • All Owner's closets include double hung shelving for additional storage.
  • Bathroom sink faucets are dual handle (one hot and one cold). No acrylic knob to mold and mildew over time.
  • Fiber cement cornice material on your home is HardieSoffit panels which are noncombustible, will with stand the outdoor elements and extend the life of your soffit over traditional wood soffit materials.
  • Recess can light standard over kitchen sink.
  • Recess can light standard over Owner's shower.
  • Glass door standard on Owner's shower.
  • The bedrooms have either trey ceilings or vaulted ceilings as well as the Owner's bathroom.
  • 5" Ogee gutters on all homes help hold and distribute rain water more effectively (compared to smaller 3" or 4" gutters).
  • Single handle pull out spray faucet at kitchen sink is standard.
  • Programmable thermostats allow you to set your temperatures at different points throughout the day and night in order to conserve energy and save money.
  • 36" cabinet vanity heights in all bathrooms.
  • We make every effort to design bathroom vanities with drawer space for extra storage.
  • Crown molding included on kitchen wall cabinets standard.
  • Finished interior garage including drywall, trim and paint.
  • Fiberglass front door rather than steel which is more susceptible to denting and swelling/shrinking with temperature changes.
  • Fire-rated hardboard door from garage into your home that matches the style of the other interior doors of the home (versus typical steel door).
  • Upgrade granite fireplace surround doesn't fade or flake like painted slate surrounds.
  • 6 pound carpet pad provides more cushioning and lengthens the life of your carpet over 4 pound carpet pad.
  • Natural stone on exterior of homes maintains its color and beauty much longer than manufactured stone.
  • Floodlights on rear of homes located at Owner's bedroom window to make replacing light bulb more convenient.
  • When able, storage areas are added under stairs for additional storage space.
  • Bullnose tile used at edges of tile on backsplashes and shower surrounds for a decorative finished look.
  • Separate fan and light in bathrooms for better ventilation and lighting.
  • Elongated toilets in all bathrooms.
  • PEX water supply lines have fewer couplings and fittings reducing chances of leaks. Due to its flexibility it is more resistant to bursting from expansion and contraction from changes in temperatures.
