Once again, it’s time for spring-cleaning! However, in addition to cleaning up around the house, a few simple home maintenance chores can help keep your home in good condition. Scrubbing surfaces, repairing broken appliances, and installing news ones are all easy chores that make a big difference.
To save energy costs in your home, try installing a programmable thermostat. If you are constantly adjusting the thermostat by lowering the temperature when you get hot or raising it when you cold, then you are wasting energy in your home. A programmable thermostat automatically resets itself to different temperatures for the day or night and when you’re home or away. Eliminating the need to manually adjust the thermostat can save you about $180 a year in energy costs.
Throughout the year, dirt and stains build up on the patio and driveway outside of your home. For most stains, simply pressure washing the area will do the trick. However, auto oil stains in the garage and driveway may require more “elbow grease”. Try scrubbing the stain with soap, warm water, and a nylon brush. A clean floor can change the whole appearance of a garage or patio!
Owning a home is a major investment that needs to be protected. To ensure that you get the most out of your investment, monthly upkeep is required to maintain the condition of your home. In addition to these maintenance chores, remember to also inspect your gas burning appliances, repair damaged or broken windows and doors, and install a chimney cap on your fireplace (if you have one) to keep outside pests from entering your home. The list of repairs to make around the house will grow as time passes, so remember to regularly attend to these and other tasks.

After dropping to nearly 1,500 in 2008, the number of construction permits in Forsyth County is back up to the levels seen before the recession. At their all-time low, in 2009, only 849 permits were issued. In 2012 there were 2,298 building permits issued, and that number has continued to increase in 2013.
The Forsyth County Commissioner believes that the rise in building permits is related to the fact that “people are moving to Forsyth County for all that is has to offer.” Forsyth County has become a desirable Georgia destination due to its low crime rates, low taxes, large parks, and leading school systems. With so many people relocating to Forsyth County, the need for new residential building permits has risen. While the level of permits still hasn’t returned to the record high of 3,274 in 2000, forward progress is still being made.
To see some of the new residential developments that are springing up around Forsyth County, visit www.jeh-homes.com for a map of our new home communities. It’s spring-cleaning time and Forsyth County is urging everyone to join together to clean our city! As part of the nationwide Great American Cleanup, Forsyth County invites everyone to help remove litter from the roadways in our community. This massive roadway clean up will be taking place across the county on April 20, 2013.
Volunteers for the clean up will meet at 9 a.m. in the pavilion at Fowler Park to commence the cleanup efforts. The cleanup will continue until 12 p.m., at which time all volunteers will be invited back to Fowler Park for food and fun! What better way to give back to your community than to help keep it beautiful? Participating in the annual cleanup is a perfect way to make a “positive impact on our community” says environmental program manager, Tammy Wright.
Those wishing to volunteer for the cleanup need to pre-register by phone at 770-205-4573 or email at KFCBGAC@gmail.com by Thursday, April 18, 2013. The upkeep and cleanup of our roadways is key to maintaining the natural beauty of Forsyth County.
